Wine is the main theme but you'll find a great selection of micro brews too. Especially when it is discounted up to 50% a bottle on Wednesdays. Enjoy Healthy & Fresh Breakfast Dishes at Sunday Brunch.
When Jim Eubank, developer of Old California Restaurant Row,
decided to anchor the other end of his 20-restauarnt complex
with a winery right next to a Mission bell tower in a beautiful
rustic plaza courtyard, I knew that I had found my home. Here
was a place where I could share my passion for food and wine,
my love for the history of Old California, and the enjoyment
of bringing people together to relax and really enjoy the simplicity
and beauty of life.
In a neighborhood of modern change, Old California takes you
back to the romantic days of Rancho leisure when spring round-ups
of thousands of cattle culminated in fiestas with rodeos and
fandango dances. The staff at Friars Folly Wine Cellar wants
to recreate for you the hospitality welcome weary travelers
going up the coast of California on the old Camino Real found
when they saw the gleaming white Mission in the distance that
meant a good hot meal, wine and conversation with other travelers.
You will find “real” soul here, “real” hospitality
and simply, “the real deal”. All the masks come
down at Friars Folly and everybody here enjoys the freedom
to be themselves in a casual, yet sophisticated surrounding.
On any given night, you might find yourself sitting next to
one of the local winemakers, the mayor, a firefighter, college
student or professor, computer professionals, seniors from
the neighboring retirement communities – the whole gamut
all enjoying each others diverse company. So come on down and
make some friends!
A lot of people ask where the name Friars Folly came from.
The inspiration came from the winery of Mission Santo Tomas
in Ensanada, Mexico. In this beautiful old building, you will
find wonderful old world paintings of the padres and candle
boys n the wine cellar in various states of disarray form imbibing
the wine in the casks. The paintings are joyful and exhibit
a little foolishness that these humble and simple men found
in addition to the arduous task they had in creating the foundations
for the California culture we enjoy today.
Enjoy,

Saint Francis, the founder of the Franciscan Order taught
us how to appreciate the simple beauty of life. His prayer
of peace rings loud in these times of war and corporate greed.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy;
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as
to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we are receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
